the Cause, the Cure, the Care

Hi everyone,
My cousin Linda's daughter lives in Fl and has cancer. Kristen has no health insurance and Linda is trying to get her medicaid/medicare. Linda is from MA and it is a different system. Kristen is in her 20's. Anyone have any advise?
Thanks Cheryl

Cheryl, which hospital is she treated at, and is she considered a resident of FL? I'll send this on to my social worker at clinic and see if she has any ideas. I know it's a long and tedious process to get approved.

I don't know but I will find out.

She is going to Jackson Memorial in Miami, and she is a FL resident.

There should be social workers at the hospital that can help her navigate the process. She may have to be persistent while applying. Has she contacted Medicaid yet to see if she qualifies?

Hi Holly,
I think she has applied for Medicare. I will tell her about asking for a social worker.
Thanks, Cheryl

If I'm not mistaken, Medicaid will also go retroactively and cover bills from the point of application. So even if it takes longer than it should to approve, her bills will be paid from the time she submitted the application.
