Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation: Resources
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation evolved from a young cancer patient's front yard lemonade stand to a nationwide fundraising movement to find a cure for childhood cancer. Since Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004) set up her front-yard stand at the age of four, more than $25 million has been raised towards fulfilling her dream of finding a cure for all children with cancer.
Our office is based in Wynnewood, PA. We offer several resources for families of childhood cancer:
1. Travel Fund Program
Made possible by a grant from TD Bank, ALSF can provide transportation (airfare, gas cards), lodging, and meal accomodations for families traveling for cancer treatment. We are currently working with 11 hospitals, where social workers apply on the families' behalf. For a list of hospitals and guidelines, please visit: http://www.alexslemonade.org/travel-fund
1. Treatment Journal
We offer free treatment journal to families with a child undergoing treatment for cancer. Included in the book are trackers for symptoms & side effects, treatment, schedules/appointments are more. We are in the process of developing a new journal, customizing it to the specific needs of childhood cancer treatment. Please visit: http://www.alexslemonade.org/treatment-journal
3. Cancer Education Center
Our online Cancer Educational Center aims to answer the many questions that parents have after their child's diagnosis. The articles and content are written for three different audience: Parents, Teens and Kids, so that the whole family can learn about cancer: http://www.alexslemonade.org/resources/cancer-center
4. Childhood Cancer Symposium
We are proud to announce our very first Symposium on Childhood Cancer. This one day event, consisting of both general and breakout meetings, is designed to be an educational resource for the families of children with cancer. The day will provide the opportunity to learn about issues and topics of treatment and beyond, while meeting with other families in a group setting. Activities will be provided for children while their parents are in sessions, as well as a medic unit in case of an emergency. We are also able to offer free lodging for families experiencing financial hardships.
